The title of this piece, “Buzzard’s Breath,” was inspired by an odd drink recipe I discovered (1/2 ounce Amaretto, 1/2 ounce Peppermint Schnapps, 1/2 ounce Coffee Liqueur). It is the first piece in my series of pieces combining miniature figures with spun vessels.  I was impressed that I was able to solder the painted miniatures to the pewter cup without damaging the paint.  Figuring out how to accomplish that has opened up a myriad of possibilities in the design of my pieces.

The obvious narrative of this piece is about a futile waiting game that has become a stalemate.  The vultures are waiting for the zombie to die, which it never will.  And the zombie is unable to escape its prison in order to eat the vultures.  As a larger metaphor, it serves as a commentary on situations where we feel trapped without an obvious solution to our obstacles.
