As part of my Suite Series, this piece combines woodturning, metal spinning, miniature painting, and jewelry-making. Shahmaran is a mythic figure from Turkey who sacrificed her life for her love (her traditional representation is laser etched on the underside of the base plate). Conceptually, this piece encourages caution as a balance to impulsive passions. The lathe-turned Thurmanite® is made from Casanova’s Memoirs to further reinforce the themes of love, passion, and balance. The wearing of the earrings can serve as an intimate reminder of these lessons and advice.
